Beautifully illustrated by Arthur Rackham throughout, this book is a collection of legends, myths, poetry and ghost stories written by an English clergyman naned Richard Harris Barham under the penname of Thomas Igoldsby. First printed in this edition 1898; this is a later printing. The best-known poem of the collection is the Jackdaw of Rheims about a jackdaw who steals a cardinal's ring and is made a saint.

This book is an homage to the famed ancient library at Alexandria, Egypt, which ceased to exist by the end of the Third century CE and contains miniature books (scrolls) in several languages.

Miniature Book Society, Distinguished Book Award, 2018. The Marshes of Glynn in moveable book format is a long poem about the Golden Isles off the coast of Georgia. The book contains the poem itself, a short biography of the author, Sidney Lanier, and a US postage stamp issued to honor him.
