Sacred harp singing is living tradition of sacred choral music that some believe originated in the American South of the US. This book however traces those roots back to England and even to the Renaissance age. The name is derived from The Sacred Harp, a ubiquitous and historically important tunebook printed in shape notes. Sacred Harp music is performed voice only, without instruments (a cappella).
