Stanley Mouse

(Northern) California: Gary Saderup, 1991. Approximately 20x 25". Fantastic autographed printer's proof poster (a reproduction autograph not an original), no visible creases or wear, in fine condition.

Stanley George Miller (1940 - ), also known as Mouse or Stanley Mouse, is an American artist who is best known for his 1960s psychedelic rock poster designs and album covers for the Grateful Dead, Journey, and other bands. This poster celebrates the 25th anniversary of San Francisco's first Human Be-In and the 4th Annual Digital Be-In. The Human Be-In was an event held in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park Polo Fields on January 14, 1967. It was a prelude to San Francisco's Summer of Love, which made the Haight-Ashbury district a symbol of American counterculture and introduced the word "psychedelic" to suburbia.

Knee Deep at the Long Branch Saloon, Berkeley, California

Knee Deep at the Long Branch Saloon, Berkeley, California

Anonymous

Berkeley, CA: n.p, [1971]. Approximately 11 x 14". Graphics poster on yellow stock paper, advertising the band Knee Deep playing at the Long Branch Saloon in Berkeley. Online records show that this concert happened December 10, 1971, in near fine condition.

The Knee Deep band is a rock and roll dance band, still playing in the San Francisco Bay Area. The interesting thing about this poster is the location: 2504 San Pablo Avenue, which has a fascinating rock and roll history. In the 60's, this address had been the site of The Cabale, an essential stop on the 60s folk circuit. It briefly became the Good Buddy, then Caverns West, then the Questing Beast in 1965 where Country Joe and the Fish often played. In 1966 the club then became Tito's and in 1969 the Babylon. The room size was doubled and renamed the Long Branch in 1971. Numerous musicians played here such as Earth Quake, Grootna, Flying Circus, Charlie Musselwhite, Cookin' Mama, Elvin Bishop Group, Linx, Alice Stuart, Commander Cody, Sopwith Camel, the New Riders of the Purple Sage (Jerry Garcia), Tower of Power, Cold Blood, and Knee Deep.

Tiajuana (Tijuana) Bible Revival, No. 1

Tiajuana (Tijuana) Bible Revival, No. 1

Anonymous

n.p.: n.p., 1969. 28 pp. 4 x 6 1/4"; Stapled booklet with 2 color covers and color centerfold otherwise black and white, minimal edge wear, ink mark on front cover, in very good condition.

Underground comix reissue of Tijuana bible material, with cartoons such as "Tillie - The Fire Woman", "Count Screwloose in 'Decoyed'", "A Good Hoseing", et al. Includes an explicit photo. The centerfold is early blotter art and depicts "The Jean Harlot Licky Split Cuntest" that suggests the reader lick the spot between Harlot's legs and wait 20 minutes. Presumably, since this booklet is over 40 years old, there are no illegal substances here. Tijuana bibles are palm-sized pornographic comic books produced in the United States from the 1920's to the early 1960's. Most Tijuana bibles parodied popular comic strips or popular movie starts of the day. For instance, this one has a Popeye the Sailor comic. The writers, artists and publishers of these booklets were usually unknown, due to the illegality of the early publications.
