The Sherrill Research Corporation was founded in 1938 in Peru, Indiana and later moved their headquarters to Mexico, Indiana. It manufactured compasses during the mid-twentieth century for both civilian and military use (mainly automotive, marine, and aviation). Two Sherrill Research Corporation advertisments in Popular Science: from August 1944, and from June 1945. "This instruction book was prepared for the armed forces for use in compensating all Sherrill Compasses. Due to wartime restrictions it has been impossible to prepare a booklet solely for the Sherrill Model 1576 Compass." This guide is meant to help the user compensate the compass so that it reads accurately. Scarce. No copies in OCLC and only two in the trade at the current time (sold with the original compass). 3/15
