Padraic Colum (1881-1972) was born in Longford, Ireland. He was a poet, novelist and playwright among other things. A contemporary of W. B. Yeats and James Joyce, he was, at one time, president of The Poetry Society of America. His works have been widely acclaimed and translated into many languages.
