New York: Ben Abramson, 1946. 154 pp. Approximately 5 1/2 x 9 1/4". Yellow paper dust jacket with red and black lettering, no price listed but jacket is unclipped and slightly stained, some japanes paper repairs to inside of jacket, faint pencil marks to back flap; Maroon cloth over boards, illustration on paste-down label to cover and title on paste-down label on spine, illustrated endpapers, bookseller ticket on rear paste-down endpaper, small stain on one page, otherwise in very good + condition.

The Circus of Dr. Lao is a novel written in 1935 by Arizona newspaperman Charles G. Finney and this edition is illustrated by Boris Artzybasheff. It won one of the inaugural National Book Awards: the Most Original Book of 1935. The black and white illustrations are numerous. Later adapted into film in 1964 under the name "7 Faces of Dr. Lao" and starrring Tony Randall and Barbara Eden, the book and movie follow the effects the circus has on the fictional town of Abalone, Arizona.
