This is a lovely collection of sonnets by James Michener (1907 - 1997), gathered over 70 years. Known best for his lenghty fictional novels and family sagas, these sonnets are highly personal. They cover his experiences as a boy in rural Pennsylvania throughout adulthood. The appendix is a fascinating look into the process of how he wrote sonnets. Also extraordinary are the personal notes written at the conclusion of most of the poems that describe the life events that led Michener to convey his feeling via poetry. A really beautiful book in terms of workmanship and content that was published in celebration of Michener's 90th birthday.
