Ichikawa City, Japan: Kototsubo, 2008. A set of three dollhouse size books, designed to look like letters, the first letter is in an envelope with a leather cord and metal leaf, the second letter is a holding book with leather closure and metal key, the third letter is a rolled book (scroll) with a metal chain and a ring, missing the original paper box but now housed nicely in a clear acryllic cube with cork bottom for lovely display, in very good condition overall due to lack of original box but letters are in fine condition.
With beautiful calligraphy by Minoru Sasaki and printed in resin letterpress, the letters are original short stories about a time machine and autumn, written in Japanese. Entered in the Miniature Book Society 2009 book competition exhibit. Number of copies unknown. Artist Akai's website notes limited edition of 30 copies while MBS competition catalog lists limited edition of 500 copies.
