n.p.: n.p., circa 1745. approx. 7 1/4 x 10 1/4". Hand-colored etching, die-cut and affixed to secondary sheet, lavishly embellished with period fabrics, lace, and fur, with a short poem below the illustration in French, general age-toning and spotting (mostly to margins), lace is brittle, otherwise in very good condition.

Gorgeous piece of folk art, the etchings are very similar to other works of French Rococo engraver and printer Pierre-Louis de Surugue (1716 - 1772). A woman is depicted sitting in from of a desk and is titled, "La Dame Critique". An anonymous artist, most probably in the late 18th or early 19th century, judging by the materials used, has cut out the clothes and the head covers of the lady and has fashioned stunning new ones from various silks, lace, and fur. The materials are meticulously stitched and glued to form truly unique pieces of art.
