John Muir (1838 - 1914), an immigrant from Scotland, was only 31 when he first came to the Sierra Nevada foothills and fell in love with the area and this book is an excerpt from his book, Our National Parks, printed in 1901. His high regard for the beauty of the area, "divine, enduring, unwasteable wealth", led to him becoming a famous conservationist and inspiration for readers to similarly fall in love with the Sierras.
