Glasgow: D. Bryce & Son, [ca 1900]. 384 pp. Approximately 3/4 x 1". Red roan wrappers with gilt lettering on cover and spine, the word "PEARS" on the rear (referring to the famous soap firm), minor wear to covers, all edges yellow, frontispiece a portrait of Dr. Johnson, printed by Robert Maclehose, housed in original decorated hinged metal locket with magnifying window to lid, locket has a great deal of rust but is in very good condition, the dictionary is a very good copy. (Bondy p.106, Garbett p. 25-26)

This famous publishing firm was started in 1832 in Glasgow, Scotland. Although thousands of these dictionaries were issued, according to Bondy they are now becoming quite scarce.
