This dystopian novel tells of a future society in which the population has grown too much and is mostly people under 21; so, in order to maintain order, everyone reaching the age of 21 must die. The main character, Logan, as a Sandman, is in charge of enforcing this rule, until he becomes a runner himself. Made into a film in 1976, only the basic premise of the novel is used.
