Green cloth over boards, no dust jacket, gilt title and decorations on both front cover and spine, portrait frontispiece, gift inscription on front free endpaper, some rubbing to edges, otherwise in very good + condition.

Ellen Wheeler Wilcox (1850 - 1919) was an American poet and author. Best known for her opening lines of "Solitude": "Laugh, and the world laughs with you; Weep, and you weep alone. For the sad old earth must borrow its mirth; But has trouble enough of its own". She received $5 for her first publication of this poem in the New York Sun.
