Rip Van Winkle
$ 355.00 USD
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1905. 7 1/4 x 9 7/8". First trade edition, second impression. Green cloth over boards, pictorially stamped in gilt on front cover and lettered in gilt on spine, some cloth fraying, corner bumping, some color wear on back cover, some foxing to pages, all page edges stained green, color frontispiece and 50 illustrations by Rachkam, bookseller label on rear paste-down endpaper, otherwise in very good condition.
First published in 1819 by American author Washington Irving (1783 - 1859), it is the relatively short story of a man who falls asleep and wakes up 20 years later, after the American Revolution has already happened. Arthur Rackham's ethereal drawings complement the story perfectly.
