Robert E. Massmann, publishing under the REM Miniatures imprint, was the former Director of Library Services at Central Connecticut State University. He had a collection of over 9,000 miniature books when he decided to publish his own in 1962. A long and prominent career followed, involving his wife and two boys in the business as well. His book trend to the unusual, often involving 3-D techniques, broadsides, and books of unusual and moving shapes. This book is a prime example of his excellent work. The illustration on the cover lifts up to form a birdcage and the box structure elegantly displays both the fossil and the book, which talks about the wonder of a thing that is so very old and the beauty and appreciation of a present-day bluebird sighting.
