Florence, Italy: Parione, ca 1992. Approximately 12 1/2 x 9 1/4". Marbled boards with 3/4 brown morocco leather binding, 5 bands and gilt lettering on spine, some minor rubbing and edge wear, some slight foxing to page edges, marbled endpapers with a slight tear to the front one, hollowed out interiors with a miniature library vignette, in near-fine condition. The original book was complete as the Parisian Revue de L’Art Ancien et Moderne, dated 1899, volume 2. The miniature library contains many glorious features: miniature book volumes, statues, photographs, vases, a microscope, an engraving, and various other miscellaneous miniature items. There are two side cupboards that open to include more books and items; and, there are two drawers that open to reveal more books and tied stacks of papers.

Ettore Sobrero (1924 - 2014) was a famous Italian artist whose work has been exhibited in Venice, Milan, London, Zurich, and Paris. Some famous owners of his work are reportedly Stanley Marcus, Georgio Armani, Silvio Berlusconi, and Bill Clinton. Sobrero looks for miniature items throughout Italy for his libraries, which took him about two weeks to finish. Many have themes but the library inside the book is quite extremely rare and his works are hard to find in general. Only one other similar book-bound copy has been found in an institution, the Lilly Library, from Ruth Adomeit's well-known miniature collection. It is a beautiful work that would be sure to make both a miniature or standard book collector very happy.
