Tan cloth over boards with red and green lettering on spine, slight bubble on spine binding as noted in other listings of this book as well, first edition stated on copyright page, slightly stained top edges and tiny spots on bottom of front cloth cover, faintly musty smell, otherwise in very good condition.

Nelson Algren (1909 - 1981), was an American writer, best known for this novel, which won the National Book Award in 1950. Adapted into film in 1955, it was directed by Otto Preminger and Frank Sinatra played the leading character. This is a post-World War II novel set in Chicago and follows the fictional life of Frankie Machine, a card dealer and morphine addict.
