John Ernst Steinbeck, Jr. (1902 - 1968), was a well-known American author, best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, "The Grapes of Wrath". One of Steinbeck's few but important works of non-fiction, this book tells of a boat expedition he took with his friend, marine biologist Ed Ricketts, in order to collect marine specimens. The relationship Steinbeck had with Ricketts was influential on his work and characters. Steinbeck's eulogy to his friend was added as a forward to this book.
