Set of 56 Fables of Aesop on Individual Cards. A Superb Collection of Favorite Fables by Aesop, Magnificently Illustrated.
New York: Shackman, n.d. (ca 1963). First Edition. 57 illustrated cards, 56 of which are printed in blue with a fable and its moral on the other side, one card is explanatory, each card measures 2 1/2 x 3 1/2", very minor wear seen occasionally, in near fine or better condition. All housed in a box measuring 3 x 4", covered in red leatherette over card stock, illustrated label on cover with minor spotting, a few nicks and rubbed spots, otherwise in very good condition.
Printed in Hong Kong, this is a beautifully illustrated set of Aesop's fables, rather scarce in the trade, especially in this condition. Some of the fables include the more well known "The Hare and the Tortoise", as well as several with a fox (i.e. a fox with either grapes, a lioness, a crow, a goat, a stork, a mask, a lion, a cat, a bear, a bramble, a tail-less fox, a cock, a leopard, and a wild boar). That fox sure does get around.
